7th-Grader Scores Excellent Rating at Ohio Academy of Science Fair
March 18, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Exemplifying the Portrait of a Hilltopper traits of Commitment, Critical Thinking and Continuous Learner (+MORE!), Chardon Middle School seventh-grade student Addison Fabian invested her Saturday — March 16 — in The Ohio Academy of Science District 5 Science Day Fair at the University of Akron where she earned an EXCELLENT rating for her project, Molecular Gastronomy.
Addi was — impressively — just two points shy of a State qualification!
Her project, Molecular Gastronomy, the culmination of months of research and testing, first debuted publicly at the CMS 3rd Annual Juried Science and Fine Arts Fair on January 31. As a finalist in the school's juried science event, Addi qualified to participate at the District level.
CMS seventh-grade science teacher Jackie Brown described Addi's project, stating, "For Molecular Gastronomy, Addi made an alternative type of tomato-based pasta and in a blind taste-test, had test subjects see if they could tell the difference between the alternate and traditional pasta. She wanted to see if there was an alternative pasta for people with gluten issues."
Thousands of Ohio students compete annually in OAS District Science Days for the opportunity to attend State Science Day held at The Ohio State University. District Science Days offer students a chance to have their research judged by scientific professionals and compete for thousands of dollars in student scholarships.
#TopperUp to Addi on her Commitment to Critical Thinking and Continuous Learning!
