6th-Grade Financial Literacy Lessons
A Partnership with Junior Achievement® of Greater Cleveland and The Middlefield Banking Co.

March 14, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Through a partnership with Junior Achievement® of Greater Cleveland and The Middlefield Banking Company in Chardon, Chardon Middle School is pleased to be in its third consecutive year of offering the JA® Economics for Success program for the school's sixth-grade students.

What is Junior Achievement?®
JA® programs are designed to support national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, work and career readiness. The Economics for Success program introduces middle school students to initial work and career readiness and personal finance concepts. Students explore career interests and opportunities and learn about financial roles and responsibilities.

Partnering with The Middlefield Banking Co.
Since 2021, Middlefield Banking's Executive Vice President/Chief Risk Officer Courtney Erminio has been highly instrumental in recruiting volunteers to run JA® programs at CMS. Mrs. Erminio is also a Chardon Schools parent.

This year's sixth-grade classes were introduced to the Economics for Success program on Feb. 23. Middlefield Banking team members taught lessons in the school classrooms on financial literacy.

CMS Principal Adam Tomco stated, "The Middlefield Banking staff brought a contagious energy in leading our sixth-graders in an exploration of such key concepts as debt, credit cards, credit scores, loans, and fiscal responsibilities. The presenters also took the time to share their roles and responsibilities within the bank."

Chardon Schools parent Erik Stumph volunteered to give of his time to the classroom that day, while Middlefield Banking presenters included:
