Washington Street Property — Planning in Progress
$3.5 Million in Renovations Projected for Calendar Year 2024

April 7, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Chardon Schools is pleased to report it is in the early stages of design and phase planning for the Washington Street 400, 402 and 404 property. The District's acquisition of the property was approved by the Chardon Board of Education on May 2, 2023. 

As reported by the District to the community at that time, the purchase allows the District to embark on a multi-year relocation project that will consolidate the following operations to one shared location on Washington Street:

  • Transportation + maintenance operations from the CHS campus
  • Business affairs offices from the Hambden campus

At the time of this writing, the status of this multi-year relocation project is as follows:

  • The Chardon BOE approved a Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) at the April 2, 2024 Special Board Meeting — Millstone Management Group — for the Washington Street project.

  • The Chardon BOE approved ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) at the April 2, 2024 Special Board Meeting for the design of the Washington Street project.

  • As of April 5, 2024, the District is estimating approximately $3.5 million in renovations to the Washington Street site by the end of this calendar year.

Assistant Superintendent of Business Affairs Steven Kofol elaborated,  "Among the undertakings the District hopes to complete as part of that $3.5 million investment is the site work  — all underground utilities potentially the rear building and the transportation section of the front building."
