Fifteen 6th & 7th Graders Compete in GCCTM Math Contest

March 10, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Chardon Middle School math teacher Bob Francis was an early Saturday morning riser once again* for a math competition — this time on March 2 with 15 sixth- and seventh-grade CMS students participating in the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics Math Problem-Solving Contest held at Kirtland Middle School.

CMS competes each year in this annual contest offered for students in grade levels six through eight.

Mr. Francis described the 15 CMS participants as ranging in math classes from sixth-grade to advanced to double-advanced and emphasized they had been studying for the March 2 contest since January.

He added, "The material is very challenging. All 15 students represented CMS in a positive way."

*Just last month, Mr. Francis was a leader, together with CMS math teacher Becky Mele, in hosting over 64 Greater Cleveland area students at the Grades 4-5 GCCTM contest at CMS. The school is a seasoned host site for this contest.
