Two CHS Seniors Lead Chardon Schools Pink Shirt Day 2024
National Anti-Bullying Initiative
Chardon Shirts Generously Donated by Chardon Smile Center and Stuart Miller!

March 3, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Pink Shirt Day, a global initiative that launched in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2007, has been thoughtfully embraced by Chardon High School seniors in leading the effort districtwide each year since 2021. This year was no exception for Chardon Schools with Class of 2024 students Drago Vujaklija and Andrew Bruce taking the reins.

The Background
In Canada, the Pink Shirt Day initiative began as a peer response to a ninth-grade boy being bullied by other students for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. Travis Price and David Shepherd, also students at the school, saw what happened and wanted to support the freshman. They went out and bought 50 pink tank tops and asked their friends to wear one to school in support.

Since this time, the Pink Shirt Day movement has grown throughout the world as an anti-bullying initiative held each year on the last Wednesday in the month of February.

Chardon Schools "Be a Buddy - Not a Bully" Shirts
In Chardon, CHS seniors Drago Vujaklija and Andrew Bruce advertised their "Be a Buddy - Not a Bully" pink shirt project to students and staff, providing all with the advanced opportunity to purchase a shirt in time for Pink Shirt Day.

Additional shirts were generously donated to the service project by Chardon Smile Center and Stuart Miller. Chardon Smile Center is owned and operated by Dr. Christopher Phillips and Dr. Brian Titus. Stuart Miller, a Wealth Coach, is the Chief Investment Officer at Geauga Financial Advisors.

All shirts were produced by Ten10 Design in Chardon.

Chardon Schools students and staff wore their "Be a Buddy - Not a Bully" pink shirts on Feb. 28 as a unified symbol in support of the national anti-bullying initiative.
