October 4, 2023 — Mrs. Lannon's and Mrs. Tyson's Park Elementary 1st-grade classes, accompanied by Miss Roland and Mrs. Roesch, ventured outdoors in the City of Chardon for a walking field trip on this unseasonably warm October day today.

The mission? An observational opportunity to make text-to-life connections between the City of Chardon and stories recently read in class, including Geodes® decodable "A Library of Our Own" and "Just in Time" books.

The young Hilltoppers were observant, taking note of the changing foliage in this new season as well as the vibrant murals around town.

Keen student observations included the town's "Free Library" that appears in one of our town's murals; and an upstairs Chardon window with a cat reminiscent of the "Library Cat".

Additionally, students took note of people sitting under a tree in the mural near the Chardon Police station, reminding them of the books "Tomás and the Library Lady" and "Waiting for the Biblioburro".

Hilltopper 1st-graders surely demonstrated they are Continuous Learners and Critical Thinkers!
