October 5, 2023 — Did you know that Chardon's elementary schools participate in Start with Hello Week each year? This program stems from the Sandy Hook Promise's Start with Hello initiative — a national call-to-action week dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth.

Celebrating Kindness, Connection, Inclusion, Empathy & Belonging

This year's Start with Hello Week took place, nationwide, the week of Sept. 18-22. Special thank you to Chardon's elementary school counselor, Mrs. Erika Barnett, for leading annual participation in our schools.

Hilltopper favorites this year were the "Mix-it-Up Lunch" and "Wear Your Favorite Thing Day".

"Mix-it-Up Lunch" encourages students to enjoy lunch with peers who they may not have sat with before at lunchtime and having access to a list of conversation starters to help with breaking the ice in new groups.

Park Elementary principal Mrs. Makee stated, "Students enjoyed meeting new classmates, sharing their favorites, and participating in activities that encouraged them to make connections with others."
