March 17, 2023 — Chardon High School’s Academic Decathlon team impressed at the State tournament held at John Carroll University March 10-11, in all hauling 28 well-earned medals back to Hilltopper town. The 20-member team likewise shined in virtual regional contests earlier this year, garnering 26 regional medals, including 10 gold.
Chardon ACADEC operates under the dedicated leadership of Coach Allen Herner — advisor to the team since the 2010-11 school year, leading the team each and every year to State-level competition beginning with his first season aboard. In Hilltopper tag-teaming spirit, CHS science teacher Dr. Rebecca Schneider was at the helm for the team’s 2023 State tournament journey.
Coach Herner stated, “Dr. Schneider took on a substantial workload in getting our students to the State competition and advocating for them while there. I can’t imagine the event being such a success for our students without her.”
The Chardon Board of Education will recognize the Chardon Academic Decathlon team for its 2023 accomplishments during the student recognition segment of the March 20 regular board meeting scheduled for 6:30p.m. at 428 North Street (44024). The segment is towards the start of the meeting.
