Speech & Debate STATE Qualifier Earns Spot on NATIONAL Stage

February 22, 2023 — Award-winning Chardon High School junior and speech and debate "Hilltalker" Charlotte Jons competed at the National Speech and Debate Association's North Coast District Tournament on Feb. 17-18, finishing first place in Program Oral Interpretation and advancing her to a spot on the national tournament stage.

Just last month, Charlotte qualified for the Ohio Speech and Debate Association's 2023 State tournament — the third consecutive high school year she has earned her bid for competition at the state level. The 2023 OSDA state contest will be held March 3-4 at Austintown Fitch High School in Austintown, Ohio, and the 2023 NSDA national tournament is scheduled for June 11-16 in Phoenix, Arizona.

CHS principal Doug Murray stated, "Extraordinary news! She is now literally going places!!!!"

Charlotte will be in excellent company with the other national qualifiers from the North Coast District — representing schools that include Solon High School, Chagrin Falls High School, Kenston High School, Brecksville High School, Hawken, University School, St. Ignatius High School and Laurel School.

We look forward to following Charlotte's journey at both the State and National tournaments.
