21-22 End of Year & Upcoming 22-23 Year Info

May 24, 2022

Dear current and future CMS Families,

The past few weeks of the school year have been a whirlwind of excitement and activities to wrap up the 21-22 school year!  A special thanks to the CMS staff members who volunteered so much extra time planning fun and engaging activities to celebrate the year.  Across the building and over the past few weeks, these activities included the Cleveland Art Museum, Good Time III, Chicago, Lake County Farm Park, The Rookery, Camp Red Oak, The Cleveland Zoo, Big Creek Park, and field days, to name a few.  It has been a full calendar of celebrations!  Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our parents for your generous donations of time and resources!  From volunteers for Junior Achievement programming, to Real Money Real World, and all of your work with end-of-year parties and donations for the 7th grade raffle, THANK YOU!!!!

Please be sure to review the detailed e-mails from your child’s teachers about the events over the next two days, but I wanted to share a few building-wide reminders as well.

7th Grade Clap-Out

We will recognize and send-off our 7th graders at 11:00am on Thursday.  Parents are welcome to attend and line-up in the Alcan drive-way (closest to the high school).  7th grade students are dismissed after Mr. Murray’s welcome speech to them and they enjoy their ice cream treat courtesy of PTO.  (If your child is staying at school through the day on Thursday, please e-mail me at [email protected].)

Yearbooks

We were informed that despite placing the order in a timely manner, distribution challenges abound and the yearbooks will not arrive to the building until next week.  When they arrive we will communicate with all families that they will be available for pick-up at CMS from 7am-3pm most weekdays, or they can be distributed at the beginning of next year.

Medication Pick-Up

If your child has medication in the CMS clinic, please plan to pick it up on Thursday or Friday of this week (5/26 or 5/27) from 7:30am - 3:30pm.

Lost and Found

There are several lost and found items displayed in the cafeteria for students to puruse!  If your child is missing a lunch box, jacket, sweatshirt, etc., please remind them to check the tables for their lost items.  Any remaining items will be donated at the end of the year.

Spring MAP Reports

Will be sent home with students on Wednesday, 5/25.

21-22 Final Reports Cards

Will be posted in Infinite Campus no later than noon on Wednesday, June 5.

School Chromebooks

Students will again be keeping their school-assigned devices over the summer.  This will assist students who are participating in summer learning or all students in completing their summer reading assignments.  Tech support will NOT be available as students have been reminded to have any issues with their devices submitted ASAP.  If there is a problem with a device, they can still turn them into the media center to be repaired over the first month of summer and can be picked up in July if families prefer.  Parents are encouraged to monitor your child’s usage and only allow access for school-related purposes.  If a family moves, the device must be returned to CMS in order for records to be transferred.

For the 22-23 School Year!

School Supply Lists for 22-23 School Year

Are posted on the CMS Website.  If a rising 4th or 5th grade family purchased the PTO supply kits, THANK YOU for your support, and know that more information will be provided to you directly in early August.

Summer Reading

Summer reading assignments for the 22-23 school year have been shared and reviewed with students by current teachers.  The assignments are also posted on the students’ grade-level google classrooms, as well as on the CMS website.  Each summer reading has a screencast linked to it to provide verbal directions for students, as well.

Teacher Assignments  / Class Schedules / Locker Assignments (grades 5-7)

Will be posted in Infinite Campus on Wednesday, August 10.

Grade-Level Google Classrooms

Students are encouraged to be sure they are enrolled in their grade-level google classroom.  The names of these same classes will be updated over the summer to reflect their grade level for next year.

Below are the class codes for those STUDENTS who need to join - they should follow the steps below while logged in to Chrome via their CLSD account:

  • classroom.google.com

  • Click the “+” on the top right of the screen

  • Click “join class”

  • Enter the appropriate class code below

3rd graders will receive an invite within the next 2 weeks:

  • Current 3rd graders:  xdxfqhn

  • Current 4th graders: m22e3q

Finally, rising 4th grade families are reminded of the welcome message that was sent on May 4 - a copy of that message can be found on the CMS website HERE.  We had a blast welcoming your children to CMS when they visited last week and are looking forward for a great 4th grade year!  Just a reminder that we look forward to welcoming 4th grade and new parents to our parent information night on Wednesday, August 10th @ 6pm.

Have an enjoyable and safe summer!

Sincerely,

Timothy Velotta, CMS Principal
