What is the Chardon Creativity Center?

THE RECAP
As shared in 2022-23 district publications, including Chardon Schools'
summer 2023 edition of the Open Lines community newsletter, Chardon Schools and the Geauga County Public Library embarked on a novel partnership in early 2023 to establish a shared-use makerspace named Chardon Creativity Center (C3), located at CHS.

Chardon Schools Believes Community Connections Build Stronger Schools

The C3 is Chardon's up-and-coming design center consisting primarily of additive "making" equipment, including a vinyl printer, ultraviolet printer, direct-to-garment printer, 3D scanner, broadcasting equipment/cart, and 3D printer; and subtractive "making" equipment, including a CNC machine and laser cutter.

The makerspace will benefit both Hilltopper students and staff as well as the larger community. Students and staff will have access to the equipment in class during the school day, and GCPL will staff the makerspace for community use after school hours.

C3's equipment is made possible by the generosity of the GCPL while the building space is provided by Chardon Schools.
The complete implementation of the makerspace has involved the accumulation and installation of equipment, renovations to the building space, training of staff, and alignment of courses and resources.

THE LATEST
Chardon Schools Superintendent Mike Hanlon shared the following update on C3 during his report to the Board of Education at the regular meeting on Sept. 18:

"The collaboration with the Geauga County Public Library to establish a shared-use makerspace at Chardon HS is nearing completion with final capital improvements and equipment configuration at the Chardon Creativity Center - C3. Teacher leaders participated in professional development on the use of equipment housed at C3 and we expect a roll-out for
students and library patrons very soon."
