In the role of educational speaker, Chardon Schools SRO (School Resource Officer) Jasen Elam visited Mrs. Downs’ eighth-grade social studies class at Chardon High School on Jan. 26. SRO Elam discussed the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights with the students to support their current learning unit.

The foundation of this full-year social studies course is the study of U.S. history from the time period 1492 through 1877 with a focus on European exploration and the early years of the U.S. This study incorporates all four social studies strands into a chronological view of the development of the United States.

We are thankful for SRO Elam serving as an educator in our classrooms and the many other ways he supports Hilltoppers and our mission for high achievement.

The roles of our SRO include:

  • Serving as a direct safety officer
  • Collaborating with District administration pertaining to school and law
  • Developing working relationships with students and staff
  • Working with the high school social worker
  • Managing drills
  • Teaching health and safety lessons
  • D.A.R.E. program resource officer
  • Supervising extra-curricular activities
