Chardon High School ELA classes hold Language Arts Live!
Dec. 3, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Students in Mr. Robert Goff and Mrs. Lynn Monaco’s ELA courses recently heard from a panel of speakers regarding how knowledge in the classroom can translate to the professional world.
Language Arts Live is a speaker and resource program which provides students with examples of how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom translates to the professional world and left after high school.
The objective of the program is for students to better understand the various reading, writing and communications skills as well as 21st century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity which they are currently learning and help them to apply these skills meaningfully in their lives.
The key to the success of this program is parental and community involvement which helps reinforce these skills and values. Parents and community professionals come into our classrooms and participate in a panel discussion regarding the use of language and communication skills in various settings.
Seniors in these classes are exploring technical and career writing with the help of mentors currently in professions to which the seniors aspire.
On Nov. 15, Mr. Goff and Mrs. Monaco welcomed Brianne Norcini, James Roessner, Jonathan Wise and Allison Zeiger into their senior ELA courses.
Norcini, Senior Director of Customer Experience at Solon Manufacturing, shared insights from her more than 20 years in manufacturing and leadership. Roessner, a Journeyman Lineman and union officer with IBEW Local 71, discussed his extensive experience in telecommunications and government affairs. Wise, Chief Technology Architect at CESMII, spoke about his contributions to digital manufacturing, including patents and industry leadership. Zeiger, a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Cleveland Clinic with 27 years of experience, shared her expertise in critical care and education.
Mr. Goff and Mrs. Monaco said that they “are appreciative of their time and commitment to our seniors.”
